The Centers is a national resource center for victims of human trafficking, providing intervention in the lives of individuals who have been sexually exploited. We offer a full continuum of services ranging from education and prevention to residential treatment. Through our trauma-informed, specialized treatment and evidence-based practices, The Centers provides programs and services for trafficking victims.
We advocate for laws that protect victims, participate in local, state, and regional task force efforts, and routinely work with federal and local law enforcement agencies. Our community education and outreach efforts raise awareness, challenge perceptions, promote prevention, and serve as a force for social change. The Centers can provide training and assistance to diverse audiences, including service providers, government agencies, community groups, school groups, and faith-based organizations.
Behavioral Model: Collaborative Proactive Solutions
The Centers conducts the Arkansas Human Trafficking Screening upon intake and every 90 days thereafter.
Rather than focusing on kids' concerning behaviors (and modifying them), CPS helps kids and caregivers solve the problems that are causing those behaviors. Problem solving is collaborative (not unilateral) and proactive (not reactive). Research has shown that the model is effective not only at solving problems and improving behavior but also at enhancing skills.
In the Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) model, concerning behavior is understood to be a child's frustration response. Big frustration responses are an indication that a child is struggling with certain skills, such as flexibility/adaptability, frustration tolerance, problem-solving, and emotion regulation.
Curriculum for trafficking program: Ending the Game.
This psychoeducational curriculum empowers survivors by providing a framework to understand and uproot harmful psychological coercion (a.k.a. "The Game") that many victims have been subjected to during or before their exploitation experience.
Evidence-Based Practices Used:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Attachment-Based Therapy.
